Final Project

The theme of my final project is Age progression. I used celebrity photos from the internet and made them look older then what they actually are. Common techniques that i used were changing the blending mode of the background layer to color in order to to paint gray. This technique was used for each persons hair, to give the esscence of old age. I played a lot with the blending modes so that the images of old men and women could composite well together. But i had a few struggles with making the found images look visible and not to the point where the picture is unrealistic, because different complexions were trying to be meshed together. Overall, it was good practice with photoshop and i will make changes to my previous projects from criticism given for my portfolio in the future.

Final Project Proposal

For my final project I plan to be working with collected images. Specifically, headshots and profile pictures of celebrities from the internet. With these images I plan to portray a select view of these celebrities as an older version of themselves. This is to show the common theme of age-progression. This theme will be showed amongst the 8-12 images I plan to choose. How I plan to treat these images in Photoshop is by using additional images of ratherly old men and women in order to mimic and obtain wrinkles and sagging skin and blend it in with the celebrities face. However, I will put to use the clone tool, and different types of brushes besides just making composites from other photos. Some challenges I expect to face are trying to make sure the age progression of the celebrities face looks both realistic and believable, so it really looks like this is what their going to look like 30,40 and more years from now.

Example

“Faking It” Exhibition

Image

An image from MOMA’s, “Faking It” exhibition that interested me was the “Hearst Over the People” by Barbara Morgan. What I find appealing to the image is the portrayal of Williams Hearst face in the shape of an octopus. It is composed by using a black and white image of an octopus, then subtracting some of black, so it can look dark grey. The overall mood of the image carries a negative connotation while being very demeaning. William Hearst is represented in this manipulated photograph, to show how opposed he was to the new deal, economic programs during the Great Depression and the well being of others. It’s not difficult to tell what was altered because its obvious because this image is unrealistic. How I would create this photomontage today is first to find a picture on the internet of an octopus. I would fill the octopus with black and lower its opacity. To add Hearst’s face his image I would stretch it in the shape of the octopus using the warp tool.
